In an effort to make the web more secure, a few months ago Google called for HTTPS everywhere and more recently have announced they are beginning to use HTTPS as a ranking signal. Initially this is only a very lightweight signal affecting a small percentage of global search queries and carrying less than other signals such as high quality content however it will gradually become more and more important in search engine ranking.
Due to this announcement we recommend that all our existing and new clients implement a SSL certificate on their website, not only will this increase the security on your website it will also provide your visitors with peace of mind that your website is safe and secure and have the added bonus of boosting your web ranking.
Why use HTTPS?
HTTPS is especially important when accessing websites over unencrypted networks (such as Wi-Fi in Cafes, Libraries, Airports etc) as anyone with a little technical know how can “packet sniff” and discover sensitive information about the websites you are visiting.
Encryption helps prevent this by concealing the traffic’s meaning from all expect those who know the secret to decrypt it. It doesn’t block the information from the sniffer but it will just appear as streams of random bytes rather than HTML, links, cookies and passwords.

Mobile internet usage has been steadily on the rise in the last few years. With mobile internet usage expected to match desktop usage by 2014 (Morgan Stanley). Differences between mobile and responsive design?
With responsive design you only have one website that is coded to adapt to all screen sizes, no matter what the device the website’s being displayed on.
Conversly, a mobile template is a completely separate build requiring you to have a second, mobile-only website or subdomain.
Responsive design, has been by far the most popular and widely used method for designing a mobile website.

Google prefers responsive web design over mobile templates. A single URL makes it easier for Google to crawl your site and reduces the chance of on-page SEO errors.
4) Future Proofing
A benefit of responsive design is that the size of the template is designed based on screen size, not device. Therefore your website will display properly no matter what screen size it is being viewed on.

After having our old website for nearly 7 years we decided its finally time to give ourselves a new look! We have spent the past few weeks (or months) revising our brand and website and we finally have one we are proud of! It’s amazing how much the world of web design (and our skills) have changed since our first site. Flash is more or less obsolete due to the lack of support on iOS devices and it has been replaced by HTML 5, jQuery and CSS 3 all of which we are fluent in!
We have also become WordPress gurus creating websites which not only tailor to your blogging needs but by developing plugins and extensions for WordPress we can ensure your website will fit around your requirements from one content management system!
