Should I be more responsive?

July 1, 2014 2:57 pm Published by Comments Off on Should I be more responsive?

Mobile internet usage has been steadily on the rise in the last few years. With mobile internet usage expected to match desktop usage by 2014 (Morgan Stanley). Is your business website still not mobile-friendly. If not this is not only causing a headache for users, but also a loss in potential business.

Differences between mobile and responsive design?

With responsive design you only have one website that is coded to adapt to all screen sizes, no matter what the device the website’s being displayed on.

Conversly, a mobile template is a completely separate build requiring you to have a second, mobile-only website or subdomain.

Responsive design, has been by far the most popular and widely used method for designing a mobile website.

Reasons your website needs to be responsive.

1) Mobile usage is on the up.

Despite the impressive statistics below, many businesses do not yet have a mobile website:

  • More than 20% of Google searches are performed on a mobile device.
  • 25% of internet users only access the internet on a mobile device.
  • 61% of people have a better opinion of brands when they offer a good mobile experience.
  • 25.85% of all emails are opened on mobile phones, and 10.16% are opened on tablets.

2) Positive user experience

According to Google, if a user lands on your mobile website and doesn’t see what they are looking for, there’s a 61% chance they will leave immediately (bounce) and go to another website (most likely a competitor). However if they have a positive experience with your mobile website, they are 67% more likely to buy a product or use a service.

3) SEO

Google prefers responsive web design over mobile templates. A single URL makes it easier for Google to crawl your site and reduces the chance of on-page SEO errors.

4) Future Proofing

A benefit of responsive design is that the size of the template is designed based on screen size, not device. Therefore your website will display properly no matter what screen size it is being viewed on.

These points mean it will be critical that your website provides a positive mobile user experience. A mobile website is no longer simply a nice feature – it is now a necessity and literally impacts the growth of your business.

May 14, 2014 3:22 pm Published by Comments Off on 2% gets a new website! Finally

After having our old website for nearly 7 years we decided its finally time to give ourselves a new look! We have spent the past few weeks (or months) revising our brand and website and we finally have one we are proud of! It’s amazing how much the world of web design (and our skills) have changed since our first site. Flash is more or less obsolete due to the lack of support on iOS devices and it has been replaced by HTML 5, jQuery and CSS 3 all of which we are fluent in!

We have also become WordPress gurus creating websites which not only tailor to your blogging needs but by developing plugins and extensions for WordPress we can ensure your website will fit around your requirements from one content management system!

Thanks to the huge rise in mobile traffic all our new web sites are now built using responsive web design ensuring they display accordingly across all platforms… If you don’t believe us take a look at our web site on your mobile!

Its not just our website getting an overhaul, we have a new logo, business cards and letterheads as well!
